Transformers located outdoors risk corrosive degradation from the weather. If left untreated leaks will develop. This increases the risk of equipment failure as the insulating
oil level drops and causes environmental damage.
The cooling radiators on most types of transformer can be replaced on site if corrosion or oil leaks are so extensive that normal repair or painting cannot be carried out satisfactorily.
|
| Cooling radiator banks on large transformers can be replaced even if a new supporting structure is also required.
'A' Type eliptical tube cooler banks to like-for-like plate radiator coolers have full thermal calculations carried out to ensure the new cooling banks give at least the same transformer rating, and if required a higher rating.

Welded on type coolers can be removed and new, flanged, plate type radiators fitted without the transformers being returned to the factory, this minimises disruption, outage time and cost. Cooling fitted to hermetically sealed units can be replaced and the tank modified to accommodate modern plate type radiators.

All radiators can be supplied with a range of protective coatings to suit the most onerous environmental conditions, including external hot dip galvanising.
